The Canadian Dream Garden by Landscape Ontario

March 26-29th at the Ottawa Home and Garden show

Youtube video link of garden constructionA walk through the Canadian Dream Garden took visitors on a journey through a showcase of quintessentially Canadian landscapes, including wetlands, the far north, forests, mountains and an urban garden.  Tulips were also  featured to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Gift of the Tulip from Holland to Canada, the gift that led to the creation of the world-renowned Ottawa Tulip Festival.

The designers who worked on the project include: Ashley Cochrane for the wetland and forest, Karla Narraway for the north, Welwyn Wong for the mountains, with Sundaura Alford managing the overall coordination of the planning phase as well as the design of the urban garden.

Several Landscape Ontario members teamed up for the construction including: Les entreprises Maréchal, an established company from Gatineau QC, which stepped into the lead role for the implementation. Joining them were Nature’s Way Landscaping, Natural Impressions Landscaping, Hansen Lawn and Gardens Ltd., Clintar Landscape Management, Cityscape Group of Companies and Lanark Cedar.

Horticultural students from Algonquin College, led by Steve Neumann, also provided additional assistance with the construction and planting.  Suppliers included Permacon, Cohen and Cohen Natural Stone, Aquascape, Greeley Sand and Gravel and several growers who kindly agreed to force material for the garden that gave everyone a sneak peak at spring. A complete list of the volunteer team and everyone who has generously donated to this project was on display in the garden and in the Landscape Ontario booth during the show.
