SCIP in Ottawa
Safe Communities Incentive Program (SCIP) is scheduled each Tuesday, Feb. 3, 10, 17, 24 and Mar. 10th, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. This SCIP program promotes safety in the workplace and can help small businesses reduce their WSIB insurance premiums. Participating firms gain access to health and safety training programs, resources, and health and safety experts to help them create better, safer workplaces. Program helps members succeed — Jan. 14 and 15
LO\'s Prosperity Partnership program is like no other program available. Developed by landscape professionals for landscape professionals, it is intended to help green industry companies clarify what they excel at and what components of their business need attention and improvement. Winter is time to brush-up business skills
Ottawa is presenting an exciting series of green industry business management courses, based on the six required modules to achieve CLP certification. These are stand-alone business courses; if they wish, participants may write the corresponding CLP exam at the end of the day. Ottawa will be hosting all six modules of the program:
• Strategic Planning - Mon., Jan. 26
• Leadership and Corporate Citizenship - Tues., Jan. 27
• Human Resource Management – Wed., Jan. 28
• Corporate Financial Management – Wed., Feb. 4
• Marketing and Sales Management – Thurs., Feb. 5
• Exterior Production Operations and Risk Contracts and Legal Requirements – Fri., Feb. 6.

Awards to honour landscapers – Jan. 6
The top landscape contractors, designers and maintenance contractors in the Ontario horticulture industry will be honoured at the Awards of Excellence Ceremony and President\'s Reception at Doubletree Hilton Hotel, 655 Dixon Rd., Toronto during Congress 2009. The President\'s Reception, is from 4:45 p.m. – 5:15 p.m. and the Awards of Excellence Ceremony, is from 5:15 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The annual awards ceremony is a ticketed event.

SCIP needs registrations
The Safe Communities Incentive Program (SCIP) has announced that due to lack of registrations, all SCIP programs for Landscape Ontario will be cancelled, other than the one booked in Ottawa and at LO’s Milton office. These two venues will also be cancelled if not enough registrations are received by January 15. For information contact Carol Divitkos at 1-800-663-6639, ext. 3431.
Learn why what worked doesn\'t work
A half-day workshop, entitled \'Why What Worked Doesn\'t Work Anymore and How to Make it Work,\' for business owners and managers is scheduled for Feb. 12 at the Best Western in Milton and Feb. 20 at the RA Centre in Ottawa. The workshops begin at 9 and until 12-noon, with lunch provided. A minimum of 25 registrations are required to justify running the event, with a maximum of 50 seats available. Those numbers must be confirmed ten days previous to the respective workshop. Register after Jan. 12 through the www.horttrades.com website. Great opportunity at Canada Blooms
Don\'t be left behind - ensure your company stands out amongst the crowd by showcasing your skills and services at Canada Blooms 2009. There are a limited number of small, walled gardens available to LO members to showcase their skills to over 80,000 people from March 18 to 22nd. Participants have access to mulch, sand, equipment, volunteer material handling, tickets to Canada Blooms and $9.00 per square foot of garden.
