Pantone creates 2022 Colour of the Year

Pantone creates 2022 Colour of the Year

For the first time, Pantone has created a new colour for its annual Colour of the Year program.

Pantone 17-3938 Very Peri encompasses “the qualities of the blues, yet at the same time possessing a violet-red undertone,” the company said.

“Creating a new color for the first time in the history of our Pantone Colour of the Year educational colour program reflects the global innovation and transformation taking place,” says Laurie Pressman, vice president of the Pantone Color Institute. “As society continues to recognize color as a critical form of communication, and a way to express and affect ideas and emotions and engage and connect, the complexity of this new red violet infused blue hue highlights the expansive possibilities that lay before us.”

Pantone says Very Peri displays a carefree confidence and daring curiosity that animates our creative spirit. It was inspired by an expanding virtual world, with rising trends in gaming and artistic communities in the digital space. Previous selections include Ultimate Grey in 2021, Classic Blue in 2020, and Living Coral in 2019.
