The City of Toronto is seeking input on proposed updates to modernize the zoning rules for renewable energy devices and other low carbon technologies. Those in the landscape and horticulture industry are being asked for input via a virtual Community Consultation Meeting on March 2, 2026 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., or March 5, 2026 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The zoning review pertains primarily to ground- and building-mounted energy devices (such as heat pumps, air conditioning units, and solar energy devices) in residential zones, which could impact a front, side or backyard garden/landscape design.
The review is also looking to set new standards for electric vehicle charging equipment and solar canopies in and around parking lots.
More information and details can be found on the project webpage at www.toronto.ca/Zoning4LowCarbonTech.
