New Annuals introduced for 2009

Bellagio™ begonia series Begonia Bellagio™ ‘Innbellpea’, ‘Innbellab’ and ‘Innbellro’ Bellagio™ is a brand new series of Begonias suitable for hanging baskets. Bellagio™ begonias offer large, double flowers, in soft colours — Blush, Apricot and Pearl. This series blooms early, with much stronger performance than traditional tuberous begonias. Best in filtered sun. It will reach 35 cm (14 in.) tall and will spread 60 cm (24 in.) in a hanging basket. Need regular fertilization.
‘Nonstop® Fire’ tuberous begonia Begonia tuberhybrida ‘Nonstop® Fire’ ‘Nonstop® Fire’ is a truly unique, vibrant addition to the ‘Nonstop®’ series. ‘Nonstop® Fire’ is appropriately named for its hot shades of yellow, gold and orange, resulting in an amazing colour contrast against the deep green foliage. Its habit makes it ideal for use in baskets, combination planters and as a specimen plant in the garden.
Aloha ‘Hot Orange’ calibrachoa Calibrachoa Aloha ‘Hot Orange’ Aloha ‘Hot Orange’ is a unique bright, bold colour that will stand out in any landscape or planter. Calibrachoa Aloha series has a very round habit, with masses of large decorative flowers that bloom all summer long in a sunny location.
Flirtation™ diascia Diascia Flirtation™ Flirtation™ diascia will reach a height of 25 cm (10 in.) and spreads to 35 cm (14 in.). Flirtation™ Pink has delicate pink flowers with maroon red throats. Its sturdy, semi-trailing habit creates outstanding hanging baskets and containers. Flirtation does well in full sun.
Livingstone daisy Dorotheanthus bellidiformis ‘Mezoo Trailing Red’ Succulent trailing foliage that fills in faster than vinca vine. Livingstone daisy thrives in high temperatures and produces dark red dime-sized flowers.
Precious™ Bronze and Precious™ Gold wallflower Erysimum ‘Innrysibro’ and ‘Inrsyigol’ Precious™ Bronze and Precious™ Gold wallflower both offer a compact habit and will grow 20-30 cm (8-12 in.) tall with a spread of 15-20 cm (6-8 in.). Precious™ Bronze has fragrant orange-yellow blooms that sit atop rich olive green foliage. Precious™ Gold has fragrant golden yellow blooms. Both prefer full sun.
‘Silver Fog’ euphorbia Euphorbia ‘Silver Fog’ Silver Fog euphorbia is a great addition to combination baskets, and will enhance any landscape. Silver Fog blooms all summer long, even in the heat. Delicate white blooms over round leaves make this lace effect work in any decor, with any plant, and any colour arrangements.
Infinity® Blushing Crimson New Guinea impatiens Impatiens Infinity® Blushing Crimson Infinity® Blushing Crimson brings a new bi-colour bloom to the series. Deep crimson edges fade to white centres, while each flower retains one fully crimson petal for a pansy-like effect. It will reach a height of 35 cm (14 in.) and spread 45 cm (18 in.).
VestidosTM tri-colour daisy Ismelia carinata Vestidos™ A unique, tri-colour daisy with stunning 7 cm (3 in.) blooms in white, red and yellow. Blooms continuously through hot summers. VestidosTM has an attractive upright habit with dense, lacy foliage.
AstiTM ‘Purple’ osteospermum Osteospermum AstiTM ‘Purple’ Asti’ osteospermum has been bred to be both heat and cold tolerant, blooming all season long. Asti ‘White’ won the 2008 AAS Award. Best in full sun. New this year is ‘Purple’, which grows 50 cm (20 in.) tall and wide.
‘Kaleidoscope Deep Rose’ and ‘Kaleidoscope Pink’ pentas Pentas lanceolata ‘Kaleidoscope Deep Rose’ and ‘Kaleidoscope Pink’ The ‘Kaleidoscope’ pentas series is a taller landscape series that provides bountiful colour even in the hottest conditions. Two new attractive colours have been added to the Kaleidoscope’ series this year, ‘Kaleidoscope Pink’ and ‘Kaleidoscope Deep Rose.’ ‘Kaleidoscope Pink’, is a delightful soft pink that combines well with the new ‘Kaleidoscope Deep Rose.’
StarlaTM ‘Appleblossom’ pentas, StarlaTM ‘Lavender’ pentas Pentas StarlaTM ‘Appleblossom’ and ‘Lavender’ ‘Starla’ pentas offer long-lasting, large flowers bloom continuously above the foliage, making ‘Starla’ perfect for big garden beds and patio containers. Best in full sun. Grows 35 cm (14 in.) tall and 40 cm (16 in.) wide.
‘Lobster’ Potunia Petunia Potunia ‘Lobster’ Potunias have a jam-packed canopy of flowers. They grow like a bubble, round and round. Potunia ‘Lobster’ has a very distinct salmon-pink colour. Potunias are at their best in hanging baskets, in pots of all sizes, and are gorgeous in combination planters.
PicobellaTM miniature petunia series Petunia millifora PicobellaTM series ‘Picobella’ represents the next generation of Milliflora petunias. This petite petunia series has been bred for strong garden performance with more weather tolerance and a nicely mounded habit with loads of branching and flowers. Perfect for beds, borders and containers. Colours include ‘Blue’, ‘Carmine,’ ‘Light Lavender,’ ‘Rose,’ ‘White’ and ‘Mixture.’ Full sun. Grows 25 cm (10 in.) tall and wide.
‘Joey’ ptilotus Ptilotus exaltatus ‘Joey’ The new Ptilotus ‘Joey’ is truly a breeding breakthrough. A native to central Australia, ptilotus offers exceptional beauty, with the side benefit of heat and drought tolerance. Large, conical spikes of feathery flowers top thick silver green foliage. The 7.5-10 cm (3-4 in.) bottlebrush flower spikes are glistening silver with a darker neon pink colour near the tips.
TigerEye™ ‘Gold’ coneflower Rudbeckia TigerEye™ ‘Gold’ TigerEye is the first and only F1 hybrid Rudbeckia. This hybrid status means never-before-seen strength in the garden. Nicely branched plants are covered with long-lasting flowers with less sensitivity to powdery mildew. Full sun, grows 45 cm (18 in.) tall and wide.
MesaTM salvia Salvia MesaTM This new salvia offers outstanding heat and drought tolerance. MesaTM has a dense, bushy plant habit. Early blooming and attracts hummingbirds. Colours are ‘Rose’, ‘Purple’, ‘Azure’ and ‘Scarlet’.
Zahara™ ‘Scarlet’ zinnia Zinnia Zahara™ ‘Scarlet’ Zahara™ ‘Scarlet’ zinnia is disease-tolerant and heat-loving, and offers 20 per cent larger flowers in stronger colours. Once established in the ground, in full sun, the plant’s blooms deepen in colour with no fading.
