Landscape Ontario’s (LO) historic Vimy Ridge oak tree was recently relocated to accommodate development on the Milton, Ont., property. Donated to LO by Connon Nurseries in 2017, the Vimy Ridge oak was initially planted on the Milton property to celebrate Canada’s sesquicentennial.

A small crew transplanted the nine-year-old oak in mid-May to make way for a new stormwater retention pond — a key component of the association’s new $14 million training facility, set for completion in early 2027.

Transplanting a tree of such size is a delicate process that requires consistent watering and specialized care to ensure the roots successfully re-establish. The effort to move the tree is just one of the ways LO continues its commitment to preserving history while building for the future.
