Attend a Landscape Ontario Chapter MTO Meeting
Landscape business owners and crews spend a lot of time driving roads and highways across the province each year. Due to their weight (over 4,500 kg) and towing capacity, many of these vehicles require a valid Commercial Vehicle Operators’ Registration (CVOR) certificate to operate legally in Ontario. CVOR vehicles have a number of legal requirements under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act, including a daily operator inspection (circle check), annual registration and load security requirements.
The province’s Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO) offices perform routine inspections of CVOR vehicles and can issue fines and impound unsafe vehicles, causing financial loss and down time to landscape companies.
Each spring, volunteers on Landscape Ontario’s various Chapter boards organize a local meeting for Landscape Ontario members to connect with MTO officers or knowledgeable consultants to get the latest road safety information to ensure safety and compliance on the roads to keep everyone save and to avoid costly fines and downtime.
Many meetings include a full vehicle and trailer inspection (circle check) to ensure compliance.
Attend one of these local MTO meetings to ask questions and learn the common reasons for MTO pullovers and how to avoid them.
