Choose Your PathThis year’s Landscape Ontario Garden focuses on the vast number of careers available outdoors and in green professions. Primarily, the garden shows opportunities for those who are looking to enter a career in a green profession to “Choose Your Path”.
Paul Brydges, Landscape Ontario President and Principal at Brydges Landscape Architecture Inc. states that “as projects gain more and more complexity, the need for teamwork and qualified skilled professionals becomes apparent. There is a broad number of opportunities offered for those interested in green professions at most colleges and universities.”
The ‘Choose Your Path’ garden explains career opportunities as well as having visually stimulating areas where you can learn about pollinator gardening, rain/fusion gardening, natural stone and so much more.
Without a vast array of Landscape Ontario Logoprofessionals, this garden would not be possible. So, whether you are looking to be part of a green profession or just want to know a little more about what you can do to make your green space more environmentally responsible, you are going to want to take time and explore the garden and then talk to the Landscape Ontario Team.

International Floral Designers
Internationals at Canada Blooms 2015 International Design at Canada BloomsInternational Floral Designers at the Toronto Flower Show
The Toronto Flower Show is privileged to feature the floral artistry of International designers in our competition. The designers are invited to participate in the first five days of the festival, and the fact that they agree to come from all over the world to Toronto, in March, speaks well of the reputation of the Toronto Flower Show.
Most of the International designers have exhibited at WAFA shows (World Association of Floral Artists) which are held every 3 years. WAFA shows have been held in the United States (Boston), Ireland, Japan, New Zealand, South Africa, Belgium, France and Canada. The next show will be held in 2017 in Barbados. At Canada Blooms this year, well known designers will come from Bermuda, the United States, Barbados, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia and Canada to create a design based on the theme, ‘Celebrate!’ The International designs are always innovative, creative and thought-provoking. You’ll be amazed at what these designers can do with flowers. Local floral Garden Club of Torontodesigners and the general public love to look and learn about floral art trends around the world.
But shhhhhh! we can’t divulge the names of our guests until after their designs have been judged by an accredited floral design judge. All will be revealed on Canada Blooms opening day, March 11.
Come out and see the International Designers as they share some of their great design secrets on the Unilock Celebrity Stage on Monday, March 14 at 1pm.

Planning For Spring
Soil pictureWhat do you do in the winter to plan for spring gardening?  Add soil research to your list!  Now is a great time to think about topdressing your lawns, amending garden beds and building new gardens.

1. Most birds have a mixed diet of seeds, berries, insects and grubs, so think smorgasbord and supply a variety of food from season to season.
2. Water, for both drinking and bathing, is as crucial to birds as food. Birdbaths are available in all sorts of materials, including concrete, ceramic, resin and stone (avoid metal).
3. If food and water are readily available, birds will look for sheltered sites for nesting and roosting. Trees, shrubs and hedges, particularly conifers, fit the bill for many. And, of course, there are purchased birdhouses and nest/roost boxes.

Jump On Spring
Allan Garden's Christmas ShowCome to the 22nd annual one-day gardening extravaganza ‘Get the Jump on Spring’ at the Toronto Botanical Garden, 777 Lawrence Ave E on February 20, 2016 from 10 am to 4 pm.  
There will be 30+ garden-related exhibitors – horticultural societies, garden clubs and environmental organizations; along with Master Gardeners to answer your gardening questions. 
Running throughout the day are: free demonstrations and presentations, a floral design competition (theme: Let’s Play Outside, 4 Adult and 2 Junior Classes), and winter garden tours.  Toronto Botanical GardenFor those who want to shop, there will be a unique line-up of vendors with gardening-related wares, organic farmers’ market, special offers in the TBG Garden Shop, and nearly-new vase and gardening book sales.  When hunger strikes, the Jump Café will be ready with snacks, soup, sandwiches, salads and sweets.  
Parking and admission to the show are free, although a $2 donation is appreciated and will give you an entry for hourly door-prize draws.
