The London Chapter partnered with the London Home Builders’ Association to create a magnificent feature garden at the entrance to the stage area of the Lifestyle Home Show, held at the Western Fair Grounds in London from Jan. 25-27. Over 10,000 homeowners attended the show during the course of three days.

The feature garden was an enormous hit with the public touring the show. Many of the exhibitors praised the London Chapter for creating such an exceptional show piece that helped to draw people to an area of the show that in the past has been very quiet and poorly attended. London chapter coordinator Wendy Harry explains that the chapter’s mission in the show was to brand LO to the public and to promote its members as the professionals that they are. “We handed out pamphlets on how to hire a contractor and irrigation pamphlets, the how to hire an expert postcard and Canada Blooms promotion material to let the public know that our members are professionals. The visitors loved the LO ‘How To’ sheets we brought to the show. We also created a list of all our members in one handout as a consumer reference. From the chapter’s point of view, the show was a great success and we are already planning our involvement for next year.”

Stacey Sage, Lifestyles Home Show coordinator, was amazed at what the feature garden became. “When we first started talking about a garden next to the stage, I had no idea of the scope of the undertaking and that the London Chapter would give us something so marvelous. What a show piece! We sure want to do something again next year.”

Nine local members had booths in the home show. Members from the London Chapter were also called upon to help promote the show with the local media by appearing on two local TV programs to talk about the benefits of using a Landscape Ontario member with the theme of Be Pro Green - Hire A Green Pro. The London Chapter would like thank the Landscape Ontario members and its partners for their generous support in creating this awesome feature garden: Baseline Nursery – Division of Peeters Landscaping, Belvedere Woodcraft Gazebos, Caradoc Green Roof, Fisher Landscape and Golf Supplies, Huron Shores Landscaping, Lafarge Canada, Oaks Concrete Products, Patrick J. Callon Landscape Design, Stone in Style, Van Horik Greenhouse and Nursery.  Special thanks go to Darcy DeCaluwe of Stone In Style and a professor at the Fanshawe College Landscape Design program, along with the Fanshawe College Landscape Design students who built the feature garden.

The London Chapter also provided speakers during the show. Our thanks to the members for assisting in the success of the stage presentations: Denis Flanagan, Silverthorn Landscape Supply, Stone in Style and Turf Revolution. Thanks are also due to chapter president Tim Cradduck for pulling this all together.
